I have been apart from my blog for few days. I was on a trip to Mandalay and Pyin Oo Lwin. Although it was a short trip which took only two nights and three days, it was fun indeed.
It took around three and half hour to get Mandalay from Nay Pyi Taw by using new road. We departed our home around 7 am. The weather was getting hot when we arrived Mandalay at noon though it was Winter time. But it was slightly chill in morning and night time and light coat or cardigans are enough to protect the cold. Unfortunately I didn't bring my sun protection cream as I though Winter's sun rays would not be such harsh in Mandalay. So I got sunburn after roaming around in the city all day. I went shopping at 78 shopping mall and Yadanarpon Diamond Plaza which was more modernized and said to be the best mall in Mandalay. It was opened recently and the clothes on the shops were fashionable. I love all ^^. 78 Shopping mall was not so bad but the clothes were no more up-to-date and I saw only few people like me looking around without buying anything. At Diamond Plaza there were many shops selling different items like jewellery, gold, electronic products, clothes and shoes on different floors. Even it took around 3 hours to finish looking around first floor and second floor. I bought one cute woolen coat, one stylish scarf which costs only 4000ks, two cute blouses and one beautiful top.Two more floors left to check but I couldn't as my mom rushing me to come back to hotel :D .
The hotel we stayed at was " Mandalay Hotel ". The hotel seemed to be more attractive to foreigners with its service and traditional interior decoration. Breakfast was complimentary to all guests. It was buffet and foods were ok. The buffet include many options like " mont tee thote " and many other traditional foods. But for the view from hotel it was not so great because this hotel was situated in the downtown area so you can only have a view of motor cycles and cars going on the main roads. That is all. For a better view, I would like to recommend " Irrawaddy River View Hotel " which is situated on the bank of Irrawaddy River. But this hotel is far from downtown and its surrounding area is not so good. But from this hotel you can have amazing views of Irrawaddy River and the local people going in and out of the boats.
At night we went to night market and had dinner over there. It was too crowded with people and motor cycles at night market. Chinese people were selling seasonal fruits and vegetables. I bought two kilo of oranges and the taste was so so sweet. Oranges are my all time favorite :LOVE . I had " clay pot wanton soup " with chicken at a restaurant recommended by local people but the taste was different from what I expected. It was spicy and I couldn't finish it. The entire market was full of noises came from many young people eating and chatting. They seemed to be enjoying eating at night markets a lot. Foods at night market were mostly Shan foods and some other local delicacies. The streets were so narrow and motor bikes were parking beside the street. So we had to look carefully when we drove our car into the market. I found that there were not many people drinking Beer at night market, which was very good and the intentions of the people who came to night market were just eating only and not drinking. In Yangon, you can see many youths and adults drinking Beer at 19st street in China Town. Even if I want to eat something there, I dare not go alone because there are many drunks. So it sucks and spoiling the beauty of night markets in Yangon. Okiee that is the problem of Yangon. Here is Mandalay' matter;). I also tried some local foods like " mont paung " which was made of sticky rice. The taste was great but I could not finish even one piece as my stomach was full with wanton soup.
On the way back to hotel, I saw neon lights along the roads and roads were busy with motor cycles and motor bikes. There were also many cars but I think the number of motor cycles were even countless. The beauty of Mandalay won't be complete without motor cycles and motor bikes I think :). The people seem not to use public bus so much.
On the next morning, I went to " Mahar Myat Mu Ni " pagoda and paid homage. I made a wish for my business and donated some money for the pagoda. One thing which annoyed me at the pagoda was that there were many beggars waiting at the entrance gate and some even following the guests. That made the image of our Buddhism pagoda really bad. There were also fake monks asking me to donate them some money. The security guards didn't take any action on this and they just let the fake monks do whatever they want. I even thought to inform the officer or pagoda's trustee but I didn't make it. Then I returned back to my hotel and checked out. After that I continued my trip to Pyin Oo Lwin happily with my mom and sis.
